In Memoriam
It is with deep sadness that the Baby Point Heritage Foundation announces the passing of our Chair, Mary Anne DeMonte-Whelan, whose leadership, commitment, and generosity of spirit profoundly shaped the Foundation and the community it serves.
Mary Anne was a tireless advocate for the preservation, stewardship, and thoughtful evolution of the Baby Point neighbourhood. Her dedication to heritage conservation, community engagement, and principled governance set a standard that will continue to guide the Foundation for years to come. As Chair, she led with clarity, compassion, and unwavering integrity, always placing the long-term interests of the neighbourhood and its residents at the centre of her work.
Beyond her formal role, Mary Anne was a source of encouragement, wisdom, and steady resolve. She gave freely of her time, her expertise, and her care for others, fostering collaboration and mutual respect among Board members, volunteers, and partners. Her contributions extended well beyond meetings and plans; she helped build a strong, values-driven Foundation rooted in service to the community and protecting the heritage of the neighbourhood she called home for many years.
Mary Anne’s passing is a profound loss for her family, friends, the Baby Point neighbourhood, and all those who had the privilege of working with her. She will be remembered not only for what she accomplished, but for how she led—with kindness, determination, and an enduring belief in the importance of community.
